Diphenhydramine HCL Transdermal
- Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine primarily used to treat symptoms related to allergies and allergic reactions, such as hives, runny nose, and itching. It can also be used to prevent or treat motion sickness, tranquilize excited animals and to treat tremors or stiffness caused by certain drugs or toxins.
- Diphenhydramine can cause drowsiness as a common side effect, which can be desirable. However, animals may develop tolerance to this effect over time, and may not experience drowsiness as strongly with continued use. Cats may exhibit increased excitement when taking the drug. Dry mouth and difficulty urinating may occur infrequently, but gastrointestinal issues like vomiting, loss of appetite, or diarrhea can also occur.
- Diphenhydramine can be administered with or without food. If your animal experiences vomiting or appears ill after taking the medication without food, try giving the next dose with food or a treat. If vomiting persists, consult your veterinarian.
